CALL FOR THE SIXTH EDITION OF JUAN DE DIOS LÓPEZ GONZÁLEZ AWARD FOR THE BEST DOCTORAL THESIS IN THE FIELD OF ADSORPTION
The Adsorption Specialized Group of the Real Sociedad Española de Química (RSEQ) announces the 6th Edition of the Juan de Dios López González Award for the best Doctoral Thesis in the field of Adsorption. The purpose of this call is to distinguish the author for their contribution to the generation of knowledge in the field of Adsorption and other related scientific disciplines, including the synthesis, characterization, and applicability of new materials.
Guidelines
1. Participants. Members of the Adsorption Specialized Group of the Spanish Royal Societies of Physics and Chemistry, as well as members of the Portuguese Societies of Physics and Chemistry, whose Doctoral Theses have been defended and evaluated in the years 2022 and 2023, may participate in this call.
2. Characteristics of the Doctoral Theses. Doctoral Theses should stand out for their high scientific and technical value and have direct interest for the community that makes up the Adsorption Specialized Group.
3. Endowment. This call is endowed with a prize of 600 euros and an accreditation diploma, as well as an invitation to give a talk at the upcoming Iberian Adsorption Meeting.
4. Deadline for Submission. The deadline for submitting applications will be May 15, 2024.
5. Submission of Applications. Interested doctors will send their application (see section 6 of these guidelines) via email to the Secretary of the Adsorption Specialized Group, at the following address: geads@rseq.org.
6. Documentation to Submit (in pdf format).
(1) Photocopy of the document proving membership in one of the Scientific Societies mentioned in section 1.
(2) Brief Curriculum Vitae (5 pages).
(3) Doctoral Thesis Manuscript.
(4) Photocopy of the Doctoral Degree Certificate (or equivalent document justifying the defense of the doctoral thesis).
(5) A summary of the Doctoral Thesis (which may be written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese) including, at least, the following concepts: objectives, results, bibliography, scientific publications derived from the doctoral thesis, contribution of the doctoral thesis work to the advancement of knowledge in the field of adsorption (maximum of 50 pages).
7. Evaluation Committee. It will be composed of three Doctors appointed by the Governing Board of the Adsorption Specialized Group, according to the following criteria, as possible:
a) the President will be a member of the Governing Board of the Adsorption Specialized Group;
b) the First Committee Member will be a member of the Organizing Committee of the RIA-2024;
c) the Second Committee Member will be a member of the Sociedad Española de Adsorción;
d) the Secretary, with voice but without vote, will be the Secretary of the Adsorption Specialized Group
The Supervisors of the Doctoral Theses under evaluation cannot be members of the Evaluation Committee.
8. Evaluation. The Evaluation Committee will be responsible for making the award proposal, for which it may seek advice from as many experts as it deems necessary, and must assess all merits related to the Thesis achieved from the beginning of the candidate's doctoral training until the moment of submitting the application, according to the following scale:
a) Scientific quality of the Thesis and contribution to the advancement of knowledge in the field of adsorption (up to 30 points)
b) Scientific impact of the Thesis (up to 60 points, distributed as follows: articles in scientific journals, which will be evaluated according to the latest impact factor recorded in the SCI, up to 40 points; books up to 5 points; conference presentations up to 5 points; patents up to 5 points; other merits up to 5 points)
c) European/International Doctorate (up to 10 points).
9. Resolution of the call. The resolution of the call, which may be declared void at the discretion of the Evaluation Committee, will be made public during the RIA-2024 event.
The decision of the evaluation committee is final and cannot be appealed.
